Accessibility Services

Learning how to assist students with disabilities is a new professional interest of mine. My goal for the next couple of years is to read more about this service area and to become more skilled in providing services to these learners.

Community of Practice to Assist Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities have more barriers than other students.  Research supports that providing students with extra service options can improve their chances to graduate.  A Community of Practice with a well planned scope of service can meet a variety of the needs these students require while easing the workload of staff.

How Self-Directed Learning Relates to Accessibility Services

All post secondary students can benefit from improved Self-Directed Learning skills. One of the highest goals that students with disabilities can reach after developing this skill is positive self-advocacy where they build relationships while advocating for their learning needs.

Annotated Bibliography - In Progress

In the summer of 2023, I began a Personal Learning Project which is ongoing. This reading has been incredibly rewarding because of the insights and understanding that I've begun to develop. This reading inspired a number of service ideas that I would be happy to discuss and would love to see come to fruition.
